1.Sculptors

CONSTANTIN BRÂNCUŞI  was an internationally renowned Romanian sculptor whose works,  over 200, are housed in the Museum of Modern Art (New York) and in the National Museum of Art of Romania (Bucharest), as well as in other major museums around the world. The Philadelphia Museum of Art currently has the largest collection of Brâncuşi sculptures in the United States.



                                                                                      Endless Column



The World War I ensemble settled in the park from Târgu Jiu,  the town of his childhood, in the south of Romania marks the apex of his artistic career and consist of "Table of Silence", "Gate of the Kiss", and "Endless Column" that commemorate the courage and sacrifice of Romanian civilians who in 1916 fought off a German invasion.

VIDA GHEZA was the most famous Romanian sculptor from Maramureş. He participated with his works to many exhibitions all around the world.
Four of his works are in Maramureş and Satu Mare counties: “The Romanian Soldier’s Monument” (in Carei and Baia Mare), “The Elders’ Council” (in Baia Mare) and “The Heroes’ Monument” from Moisei, Maramureş.

2. Painters

 

NICOLAE GRIGORESCU was one of the founders of the Romanian painting. He participated as a "front line painter" in the Romanian War of Independence that inspired him in many drawings and sketches. He also painted scenes of the village life.

THEODOR AMAN, professor and founder of the School of Fine Arts in Iaşi and Bucharest is considered to be the predecessor of Impressionism.

STEFAN LUCHIAN was nicknamed  “The Artist of the flowers” but he is famous for his landscapes and still life works, too.

3. Writers


 

MIHAI EMINESCU was “The Morning star” of the Romanian literature being the most famous poet of all times. His masterwork ,“The Evening star” is a very complex poem of 112  verses. He was a Romantic and his work was translated in very many languages.








"She speaks with him in sleep and sighs
While her heart's swelled veins drum:
-"O sweet Lord of my fairy nights,
Why comest thou not? Come!

Descend to me, mild Evening-star
Thou canst glide on a beam,
Enter my dwelling and my mind
And over my life gleam!"





ION CREANGĂ was a main figure in 19th century Romanian literature, best known for his Childhood Memories volume, his novellas and short stories, and his many anecdotes for children and adults. Some titles of stories : "Harap Alb", "Ivan Turbincă", as well as fairy tales :"The Story of the Pig", "The Goat and Her Three Kids", "The Mother with Three Daughters-in-Law", "The Old Man's Daughter and the Old Woman's Daughter.






4.Film


MAIA MORGENSTERN is a Romanian actress, a symbol of Romanian theater and film.  She is also best known for the role of Mary, the mother of Jesus, in Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ".

5. Architects
Catalin Dragomir is a famous Romanian architect of the 21st century. "Greenwich Meridian Tower", 1600 m height, one of his masterpieces, will be the highest tower in the world. You'll admire it in 2012, near the Thames River, in London. Other important works are: airports like the "Shenzen", "Bei Ha, Jinan Jigbei" from China, hospitals, universities 
( "EPA Oxford University" from UK) etc.
